four event facilities for Expo 2025 Osaka

In anticipation of the upcoming Expo 2025 Osaka, the Japan Association for the event has unveiled the initial visual renderings of four event facilities. Encircled within Sou Fujimoto’s 700-meter diameter wooden ring, these structures include the guest hall, large event hall, small event hall, and exhibition center, and they have been officially named the Guest House, EXPO Hall, EXPO National Day Hall, and EXPO Messe, respectively.

The Guest House is a single-story facility designed to welcome and host distinguished guests like kings, presidents, and prime ministers from various nations. Constructed with a steel frame and covering an area of approximately 4.600 square meters, its design emphasizes natural light, ventilation, and materials to create an environmentally friendly and comfortable space. The goal of this structure is to offer guests a taste of Japanese hospitality and culture. The hall features a Japanese-style corridor representing the connection between Japan and the world, a garden showcasing Japan’s appreciation for nature, and an open roof symbolizing a shared sky with people globally.

It accommodates around 2,000 seats, including wheelchair spaces, across its two floors, covering an area of around 8.400 sqm. Its design draws inspiration from the Tower of the Sun from the 1970 Osaka Expo, featuring a prominent golden circular roof and textured walls rising from the ground. EXPO National Day Hall (Small Event Hall)

The EXPO National Day Hall, designated as the Small Event Hall at the 2025 Japan World Expo, is a complex comprising four distinct facilities catering to various purposes. These facilities include the Main Stage for events, music, theater, and entertainment by official participants and local governments, a Lounge and Dining areas, an Exhibition Hall displaying traditional Japanese culture, and a Small Stage suitable for Noh performances. With a seating capacity of approximately 500 seats, including wheelchair accommodations, in the Main Stage area, and around 280 seats in the Lounge & Dining section, this two-floor structure spans an area of about 4.800 sqm, built upon a steel frame foundation.

The design concept of the EXPO National Day Hall embodies the historical significance of this place as a hub for international exchange through the ages. The structure symbolizes the connection between the site and its surroundings, paying homage to its role as a gateway between the sea and the land. The design incorporates an outdoor area formed by multiple layers, smoothly merging with the indoor event space to establish an engaging and lively ambiance. The building’s orientation aligns with the region’s natural contours and prevailing winds, aiming to integrate with the Earth’s geographical elements as a homage to the area’s history and future prospects.
