‘daisee’ chair is crafted with sustainability and whimsy in mind

Daisee, by London-based designer Borrellski, is an understated yet whimsical chair that offers its friendly support to its user. With its unique design features and sustainable materials, the three-legged chair serves as a versatile seating option suitable for dining, home offices, or outdoor spaces. Crafted with sustainability in mind, each piece is completely devoid of plastic components and is shaped from a single 3m length of lightweight steel tubing and locally sourced, repurposed ash timber — both of which are sealed with a natural protective layer of beeswax that must be reapplies every three months for longevity. Further, the ash is sourced from a supplier that works with tree surgeons in London to rescue usable city wood from being discarded, chipped, and burned.

Borrellski embraces the imperfections of ash timber

The welded steel frame of the chair is treated with a patina that imparts a distinct blackish blue color, which enhances its aesthetic appeal while providing durability and further protection. Designer Borrellski integrates a set of custom milled screws that animate the front faces of the timber backrest and seat. When tightened, they align with the chair’s curvature, creating a sense of movement and comfort for the user. This attention to detail replaces the mass-produced, disposable nature of common furniture with a cherished companion that will offer a lifetime of support. Rather than discarding imperfections like wobbly grains, knots, or discolorations, Borrellski celebrates these unique features, transforming them into key design elements of each chair. The incorporation of these imperfections adds character and individuality to the Daisee collection, making each piece one-of-a-kind.

Further, Daisee takes a stance against the prevalence of hidden plastics in contemporary design objects. The chairs consciously avoids materials such as fabrics and glues, and finishes like paint, powder-coating, sealants, and varnishes to prioritize sustainability and ecological responsibility.
