Jetson one’s green light to commute around italy

Jetson ONE, an ultralight eVTOL that has already flown for commute, celebrates a milestone as it gets the green light to fly all over Italy, the first of its kind to be certified by the Italian space agencies and authorities. On October 16th, Jetson announced that the company obtained two critical flight permits from the Aero Club d’Italia (AeCI) and the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC). The premise means that the ultralight eVTOL’s obtained certification in Italy allows pilots to fly the Jetson ONE in Italy’s uncontrolled airspace, a feat that Jetson dubs the world’s first.

The first registration certificate that the Aero Club d’Italia (AeCI) has issued for a recreational ultralight eVTO permits licensed pilots to fly the Jetson ONE pre-production aircraft. This I-X078 registration in Italy was received on October 5th, 2023, followed by an operational authorization grant from the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) to fly an unmanned Jetson ONE remotely, which will accelerate the testing and product validation. As of publishing the story, Jetson says that over 300 units of its eVTOL have already been sold, each priced at 98,000 USD.

Ultralight eVTOL’s further pilot tests with permits

Receiving the certification and authorization to fly and test the Jetson ONE all over Italy may not come as a surprise. Jetson first moved its operations from Poland to Italy in 2022, and since then, it has been operating at a research and development and production facility in Arezzo, Tuscany. The Jetson headquarters can also be found at a private airfield in the south of Florence, where it shares the space with an industrial facility and an 800-meter airstrip that makes it ideal to take the ultralight eVTOL into the air for flight testing. The airport is also home to a customer experience center and a pilot school that will prepare individual flyers when they commute to Italy with Jetson ONE.

In light of these back-to-back milestones, Jetson presented three Jetson ONE units at the ZeroEmission Mediterranean event in Rome between October 10th and 12. During the event, Jetson unveiled the latest developments of its ultralight eVTOL for the first time to the attendees, all while receiving official permits from the Italian authorities, as seen in the photo below. ‘Our airworthiness and compliance team has worked rigorously with the Italian authorities to obtain these new milestones, and the operational authorization by ENAC allows us to gradually expand the flight envelope of the Jetson ONE without exposing a test pilot to potential risk when we explore the limits of the vehicle. As a company, safety is our number one priority, and this authorization is a great enabler,’ says Stephan D’haene, Jetson CEO.
