The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will replace the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA 1998) in May of this year and dealers need to ensure their methods of collecting and processing customers' data are compliant.
The new law gives the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK regulator, the power to fine companies in breach of the GDPR up to €20 million (£17.5m), or 4% of a company’s global turnover for the worst breaches.
